About Muharrar.com
Satirical Journalism That Makes You Laugh, Then Squirm
Muharrar.com is a satirical journalism platform founded by Aisha Muharrar, an African immigrant journalist who believes the best comedy exposes uncomfortable truths. We’re here to poke sacred cows, exaggerate obvious flaws, and make powerful people deeply uncomfortable—all while making you laugh.
Our mission is simple: Truth first, joke second. If it’s sacred, we poke it. If it’s powerful, we punch it. And if it’s absurd, we expose it.
Our Editorial Mission
Why Satirical Journalism Matters
In an era of carefully managed public relations, corporate doublespeak, and politicians who’ve mastered the art of saying nothing, satirical journalism cuts through the bullshit. We exaggerate to expose. We mock to reveal. We make you laugh so you’ll actually pay attention to what’s broken.
As Jerry Seinfeld said, “The truth is, I had an awful lot of time to think about things.” We’ve thought about things. A lot. And most of it is ridiculous.
Our Satirical Philosophy
- 99% exaggeration and irony, 1% absurdity – We amplify what’s already there
- Truth first, joke second – Every piece is rooted in real events and factual research
- If it’s sacred, poke it – Nothing is off-limits when it deserves scrutiny
- Exaggeration is evidence – We blow things up to show what’s already true
- Absurdity must feel possible – The best satire is almost believable
- Make the reader laugh, then squirm – Comfort the afflicted, afflict the comfortable
The Immigrant Perspective
Seeing America With Fresh Eyes
Aisha Muharrar came to the United States as an African immigrant, which gave her a superpower: she can see American absurdity that native-born citizens have normalized. Healthcare tied to employment? Insane. Tipping culture that subsidizes corporate payroll? Bonkers. Political dynasties in a democracy? Absolutely mental.
“Americans have Stockholm syndrome with their own systems,” Aisha explains. “I’m just the person pointing out that your captor is terrible at their job.”
This outsider perspective informs every piece on Muharrar.com. We see the contradictions. We notice the hypocrisy. And we’re definitely going to write about it.
Our Coverage Areas
What We Write About
Muharrar.com covers the intersection of politics, culture, and human absurdity. Our beat includes:
- Political Satire – Exposing the theater of American politics
- Cultural Commentary – Immigrant perspectives on American norms
- Social Issues – Race, class, gender—all fair game for satirical examination
- Media Criticism – Holding journalists accountable (yes, even satirical ones)
- Corporate Absurdity – Because capitalism is hilarious when you’re not crying
As Amy Schumer said, “I am a woman with thoughts and questions and shit to say.” Same. But make it journalism.
Our Standards and Ethics
Satirical, Not Fictional
Every piece on Muharrar.com is based on real events, actual news stories, and verifiable facts. We exaggerate for comedic effect. We use irony to expose truth. But we never fabricate.
Our process:
- Research real news stories from credible sources
- Identify the absurdity, hypocrisy, or uncomfortable truth
- Exaggerate the reality to expose the problem
- Write it in a way that makes you laugh before you realize you should be angry
- Fact-check to ensure the satire is rooted in truth
Who We Punch
We punch everyone—but especially those with power. Politicians, CEOs, media figures, celebrities, and anyone else wielding influence are fair game. As our founder says: “No one is immune from satire.”
That said, we aim our sharpest comedy at those who deserve it most: the powerful, the hypocritical, and the absurdly self-serious.
Our Influences
Standing on the Shoulders of Comedy Giants
Our satirical style draws from the observational comedy of Jerry Seinfeld, the fearless confrontation of Amy Schumer, and the southern-fried truth-telling of Ron White. We’re influenced by comedians who expose reality by exaggerating it: Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, Chris Rock, Ali Wong, and dozens of others who make you laugh while forcing you to confront uncomfortable truths.
As Ron White said, “You can’t fix stupid.” But you can definitely write about it.
